Getting Happy Mondays producer Steve Fenton on board and supporting such
acts as Feeder, Boy Kill Boy and The Holloways, Unfinished Drawings certainly
aren't having any trouble doing it for themselves... and aren't shy at a bit
of name dropping either.
Incorporating aspects of folk, pop and indie music, UD have created a
heartfelt, melancholy LP that is easy on the ears and will not fail to
chill you out. With great vocal melodies over a stunning arrangement of
guitar and cello this LP has a refined, beautiful, almost naïve feel about
it. Admittedly I did find parts a tad gloomy and other parts so easy on the
ear that they almost dropped into the bland category, but that doesn’t matter
as the moments of brilliance easily compensate. My stand-out track would
have to be Come Back To Earth. With a fantastic dual, finger-picked guitar
intro, you witness some of the strongest, most meaningful singing on this
track and excellent melodies throughout.
Finally, I’d just like to take my hat off to UD for their ethical approach
to music. With the last EP Part One over £1,000 was raised for cancer and
with this LP they aim to donate £5,000 to St Gemma's Hospice. If you’re a
multi-millionaire musician it’s all very easy to write make trade fair on
your hand and dabble in a bit of charity work, but as an unsigned band struggling
to make ends-meet, it truly is honourable to dedicate sale money to such worthy causes.
A great listen, and considering where the money’s going, well worth buying!!!
