Raised on a peculiar diet of rock, pop, Mowtown and old school R'n'B (and presumably by animals),
Barnsley quartet Raised By Animals have injected the love, soul, funk and 60's into their
unique blend of (ever-so-slightly cheesy) indie rock.
With similarities to The Band, The Fratellis and (at times) The Second Coming
by Stone Roses, Raised By Animals' latest EP, The Raised By Animals Revue is a
catchy, well written EP with respectable mainstream appeal.
This is a good example of team-built music, with each member pulling their own quarter of the weight.
With feel-good lyrics over great vocal melodies, classically styled guitars, exceptionally tight drums
and some funky bass it works a treat!
My standout track on this EP is Old Flame, coming in with a funk beat, a perfectly executed wah
guitar riff and well sung vocals, reminiscent of days gone by. This track keeps on rolling, is catchy
and (like the whole EP) you could definitely imagine downing pints, dancing like a div and singing your
heart out to these guys.
In fairness Raised By Animals haven't really pushed the musical barriers as much as I believe
they're capable of doing. However, they have successfully mixed a lot of good music past and present
to create a fun, happy, likeable EP booming with personality that's definitely worth a listen!
