One of many Sheffield bands currently getting nationwide exposure in the wake of Arctic Monkeys,
David Gledhill’s band are setting out their stall to conquer the ‘post-Britpop’ market that emerged
in the late nineties.
They go for a huge epic sound aided in part by producer Owen Morris, a million miles away from the
in-vogue, edgy sound of many of this city’s bands. The single is warm and cosy with soaring falsetto
vocals and synth strings, recalling Mansun, Embrace and underrated indie also-rans Haven, the sound is
probably one that countless new bands aim for but fail to master quite aswell as Gledhill do.
The band hit the nail right on the head despite their ambitious target. It is a song without the mass
crossover appeal of the Arctic Monkeys but for one particular corner of the indie world it will do very
nicely indeed.
