Venue: O2 Academy (06 February 2009)

After slipping and sliding my way
through the frozen Sheffield streets
I was greeted by a queue that drew
parallel with T J Hughes for Ireland's
hottest new band The Script.
As I entered The Academy I was amazed
at how many people had made it down
for the occasion. The bars, the dance floor,
even the balconies were rammed with devotees
itching for a piece of The Script.
When the lights dropped each member took
to the stage separately and added to the
jam started by drummer Glen Power. The applause
built up and up and erupted into climax as dashing
frontman Danny O'Donoghue took position at his
keyboard. This relentless crowd support
continued throughout the set and the band
seemed genuinely moved as they thanked the audience profusely.
With a mere six months since their international breakthrough
hit Man Who Can't Be Moved, they added that
they’ve been so used to playing 'student sheds' it was
mind blowing to be playing gigs like this.
Giving a passionate, energetic set The Script were well
received by the audience and played out to two encores,
including an acoustic performance and a
cover of David Bowie's Heroes.
London boy Gary Go had hearty job of warming
the crowd on this icy evening. Already down to
support Take That on their stadium tour this summer
he had no trouble getting everybodys attention
with his heartfelt ballads. With a sound that
complemented The Script beautifully, there
was a definite buzz around Gary Go and many
audience members seemed have come purely for his set.
