Velma have known each other for many years as we all come from the small town of Todmorden and we all
attended the same high school. We formed a band while we were at Burnley College in 2000.
We had all been in bands before, Jonny and Matt in Burnt Orange, Liam in Unaudioed and
Pants of Moose, and Bobby in Flight of the Nymphs and also Pants of Moose. Because
we knew each other well and lived close to one another we thought it a good idea to form a band. We
quickly wrote some songs and started gigging around Burnley and the surrounding area, mainly opening
for other bands in pubs and clubs.
A year later Jonny, Matt and Liam all left for university, only to realize how much they loved the band
and return two years later in 2003. We wrote some better songs and started playing at better venues as
far out of town as Leeds and Blackburn, building quite a large and dedicated following as we went. We
opened a local outdoor festival two years running. Our latest performance was in a
Battle of the Bands competition at the Trades Club in Hebden Bridge, where we won the
first two rounds to reach the last two of thirty-six established young bands.
