Mulready Street is a young alternative sk8-punk pop band from Sheffield. Mixing hard
edge guitar with great melodies and a tongue in cheek sense of humour, the band are making
some of the best punk pop music out there today. Think Greenday, Offspring,
Less Than Jake and Foo Fighters, with the proper punk attitude of the Pistols
and you get the general idea.
That said, the band definitely have their own style. Each member has his
own distinctive taste in music, and this is reflected in the unique brand of fast-paced punk pop
that they produce. When not watching ice hockey [probably for the fights! SR], playing Grand
Theft Auto™ or jumping around in nightclubs, they are busy rehearsing or recording in the studio.
The 2003 National Tour
Mulready Street have played all the major live venues in the North, including Sheffield's award-winning
Leadmill and Barfly, Nottingham's
Rock City and the Cavern in Liverpool, to name but a few. They've also amassed a sizeable amount of airplay,
whether in the region's clubs, on various radio stations, or their appearance on Kerrang. In particular,
2003 saw the band strike out on their first major tour of England: they've played support to the likes of
Rachel Stamp, Reel Big Fish and Jesse James, and towards the end of the year they
supported Metaleuca at Sheffield's famous Corporation venue as part of
the Lockdown Project/Metaleuca UK Tour (courtesy of Glass Tone Productions) covered by Metal
Hammer.
Feel the Force!
In true punk style, the band celebrated with a self-funded recording of a new 6-track EP,
Feel the Force
under the production net of Rob Gordon (whose previous production credits include
Pop will Eat Itself, The Fall, Cabaret Voltaire and Erasure)
and Tom James, a young producer rapidly establishing himself as one of the best in the
UK and America. The recordings reflect what they and their lives are all about, a heady
blend of blood-rush excitement and youth.
Where next?
Maintaining the momentum gained in 2003, 2004 will again see the band taking in venues around
the UK, and a mini-tour of the USA is also scheduled. As well as playing their own material, the
band do a cover of Old MacDonald (don't ask), and their own unique take on the Madness
classic, Our House ("... our house it's in Mulready Street ...), which always seems to
bring the house down at the end of the night, as well as Clapton's Wonderful Tonight.
So why not join them? Take a walk down Mulready Street for yourself, have a few beers, jump up and down,
and generally have a great time - that's what everyone else is doing!
