The Loungekings formed as a 4-piece in early 2000 to make guitar noises influenced by bands like
The Screaming Trees, Pearl Jam, Reef, Zeppelin and Audioslave.
In a busy first few years, they picked up loads of gigs through Battle of the Bands
competitions:
Prizes
2001: Winner, The Derbyshire Times 'Band of the Year' (@ The Winding Wheel, Chesterfield)
2002: Winner, Mansfield Battle of the Bands (@ Town Mill)
2003: Finalist (nationwide, 4th out of 500), Battle of the Bands (@ Wolverhampton Civic Hall)
In August 2002, the band were asked to play an audience of 25,000 in the 18yd box at Derby County's
Pride Park Stadium as part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee visit to Derby. Support gigs have included opening
for The Vessels in November 2003, and The Others in 2004 at Mansfield's Town Mill.
The band recruited a new drummer at the end of 2004, and have spent 2005 writing new material, recording
demo tracks (see the review) at Manchester's Inch Studio,
and learning how to play live again.
