All together now, ahhhhh... H U G S T E R is one of several aliases used by Mike Stannett, each corresponding to a distinct genre in his diverse output. With 20 years experience in public performance, and hands-on knowledge of all aspects of computing, he has always been fascinated by synthesizers and electronic music. Unusually, he also has a passion for traditional folk styles, and this has informed his development of a unique synthetic-folk substyle. He's performed hundreds of times around Sheffield, both as an unaccompanied singer and as a member of local bands. He opened at Stainsby Folk Festival with local folk band Whale of a Time, and has performed around Sheffield with band Jig for a Kiss. His electronica have been played as far afield as Eastern European radio, and on pioneering underground web-radio station, interFace Pirate Radio.
