Darlings of the Splitscreen are a sheffield based band who formed in early
2004 when songwriters, Tom, Phil and Chris hooked up with drummer Huwy.
Originally hailing from Oxford where they had built up a promising reputation
as space-rock outfit Trip, these three have progressed well with local
boy Huwy behind them.
Their many influences (flaming lips, bowie, sfa, the rapture) have produced
a tight melodic alt-pop sound with strong electronic influences, described
variously as "sexed up electronica" and "grandaddy meets the buggles". The live
line up of bass, guitar, and synth is rotated between the three songwriters,
who also share vocal duties.
Early gigs were limited to a performance at Live and Unsigned at the
Harley (where they performed again in Autumn 2004) and at the Boardwalk
as part of "Eclectic Blanket" organised by local promoter Paul Lee.
Both went well and the band and their fans are looking forward to more
live dates throughout 2005 and beyond.
