[PS. Alch agrees- they're great! His favourite track is dead or not he was wearing sunglasses.]
Hailing from Leeds, math pop troubadours Wintermute are at the cutting edge of modern music with their latest EP Fun With Wizard Stencils. Playing a progressive style of the current Radio 1-esque indie Wintermute deliver well thought out, cleverly arranged, intricate songs that single them out from so many other bands in a similar genre.

The EP kicks off with Bad Company in a Sauna and instantly demonstrates the bands exceptional tightness. With complex guitars, bass lines, beats and vocals playing over each other you might expect the music to sound too busy, but it doesn’t! Wintermute really hit the nail on the head throughout this EP with crisp, punchy tunes that will appeal to the mainstream and the underground.

My personal favourite on the EP is Emerald Hill Zone Act 2. With a fantastic dual guitar intro, this track builds gradually and with some excellent melody the surreal lyrics summon vivid imagery for the listener.

With similarities to At The Drive-In, Foals and Futureheads Wintermute have created a unique blend of clever, groundbreaking music. They have fantastic ideas and enough musical know-how to put them into practice. Wintermute have made an outstanding EP and I can assure anybody this music is as good, if not better performed live. This is the sort of Indie we SHOULD be hearing on the radio!
