A while ago it seemed like every Tom, Dick and Harry was in an upbeat indie band, desperately trying to climb the greasy pole left by the Arctic Monkeys and The Libertines.

Owing to the sheer number of groups, the originality and quality seemed to diminish drastically with every new band that came along. Now though things are different. All those second rate, copycat groups are now decomposing in a musical landfill site named – Thank fuck you guys aren't around anymore!

That said, many of us may have forgotten that Indie still has the potential to summon up emotions other than boredom and disdain. Take The Light Streams for example. With barely a year together you've got to take your hats off to this Leeds outfit.

Their debut, The Lost EP kicks off with the mid-tempo number of Caroline. With a mellow, melancholy intro this song builds up into a nicely arranged three minuter that reminds me vaguely of The Courteeners. The next track though definitely has to be my standout on the EP.

City Walls is in fairness rather similar to Caroline, but with slightly better melodies. Reminding me of American rockers Gaslight Anthem, this song really demonstrates that Indie as we know it may not be dead yet. With catchy hooks, easy on the ear guitar riffs and a sound drums and bass cementing the song together.

The second half of this EP demonstrates a softer side to the group. With two mellow numbers finishing things off.
