DADDYRough are a five-piece hailing from Derby. Up for review is their first demo, recorded in 2005 and consisting of three tracks.

Track one, entitled 'Fix All My Fortunes' begins with an excellent guitar intro which conjures images of some of Metallica's softer material. What follows is an excellent vocal-heavy soft-rock song. In parts (mainly ther verse), the vocals are remiscent of REM's Michael Stipe (this is meant as a compliment btw ;-).

Track two 'Don't Trust Me' is a funkier number featuring some good wah-wah work from the guitars and excellent 'in-the-pocket' grooving from the drums. The only part of this song that I'm unsure about is the high-pitched vocal ending, something lower and more powerful may provide more of an impact.

The final track is 'Bury Me' and is my favourite track of the three. Featuring heavily is bluesy lead guitar akin to that of Hendrix (which the band state as one of their influences). The chorus is double-time in comparison to the verse and has a feel similar to The Smiths (another of the band's influences). The middle section features a guitar solo which continues through to the end of the song and is an excellent end to a very good demo.

According to the band's Myspace page, DADDYRough sound is 'Rhythmical, melodical, vocal chord activating, Rock n Roll that takes you on a magical musical trip... "As good as anything around at the mo" ' - this demo comes very close to living up to this description and is definitely worth a listen.
