Okay, so Sunderland ain't exactly part of Sheffield, and Sunderland lads Black Cab Casino don't appear
to have any connection to our music scene at all. Does this bother us though? No, it most certainly doesn't. As
these three chaps make bloody fantastic music.
These days it's difficult to be original, and when you listen to a lot of what's on offer on the underground scene
you often see repetition, copycat tactics, lack of musical talent and general poor efforts at creating music -
Not here though.
With a style that sounds retro, yet modern I'd say there were traces of Vampire Weekend, The Coral, Black Kids and
perhaps even a bit of the Help! era by the Beatles thrown in to the mix. However, this really doesn't sound much
like anything I've heard before.
These guys live on a pebble seafront by the way, and you can sort of see this jolly English-summer-in the-50's vibe
shine through as well. That does sound a bit of a bizarre thing to say, but then again, so is this music. That said,
there's definitely mainstream appeal here too, and I can imagine Joe Public vibing off this band just as much as all
the musical snobs out there.
If you're looking for something that'll sit in a pop/rock comfort zone easily, yet still surprise you with impeccable
timing, beautiful craftsmanship, and an all-round maverick approach, you'll like these guys.
This people, is music that deserves to be heard, and deserves to be recognised. Black Cab Casino are awesome!
