An interesting and enjoyable evening, and well worth the trip down to the Deep End.
BPM This 3 piece band, specialising in rocky, semi-indie tracks, a little bit supergrassy,
a little bit loud, have been together for around 3 years, and clearly had the audience
interested from the outset. The ultimate question is probably, would I pay good money to
buy this band's records? And listening to their second track, Monkey Boy, the answer
has to be a definite YES. Then into Little Head, and it feels like BPM have the makings
of a seriously good band. Nothing so far that shouts out "this is like nothing I've heard before",
but then so few bands manage that these days - it's something they grow into. But I can
honestly say I'd be proud to have written these songs. They're not dance music by any stretch of
the imagination, and to be honest, this is the sort of music that belongs in a stadium rather
than a local pub. I can't always make out all the words, but the oomph is definitely there, and the
potential could soon become gripping in its intensity.
On to the new single, with opening chords leading straight
into thudding lilting rock. Maybe a fun summer track, but would benefit from an extra reprise at
the end. But what's this?! The next track, Steve McQueen, is absolutely SUPERB. Why on
earth isn't THIS the single?! Simple - it's a really new song, and one they've only just introduced
into their live repertoire. Fun fun fun, both musically and as a performance. A potential classic.
